Edmonds Marshall McMahon has successfully prosecuted Nabeel Raja on behalf of Farooq Rafiq for fraud by abuse of position contrary to s.1 Fraud Act 2006.
There was clear evidence that Mr Raja, when acting in his capacity as an employee of Broadway solicitors, fraudulently wrote cheques for the benefit of two of his friends using the funds from the Office Account. Neither friend was a supplier of the firm, nor entitled to payment of any sum.
On 21st March 2017, Mr Raja entered a guilty plea at Tameside Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to 26 weeks custody suspended for 18 months, 150 hours of unpaid work.
