EMM’s Bridie Burnett was recently published in the Law School blog with the article English Property Law as a Patriarchal Institution: A Historical Analysis.
Throughout Bridie’s undergraduate dissertation, she examined the historic legal restrictions women have had to endure within the world of Property Law. Bridie was approached by Lancaster University Law School late last year, after receiving a high grade for her dissertation, to write an article to be published on their webpage. The article provides an overview of Bridie’s research findings, covering her examination of the historic 17th Century notions of wife sales and coverture, 19th Century legal reform, and even covers an examination of the impact such restrictions have had on contemporary legislation and case law in force today.
