Macmillan Cancer Support and EMM shortlisted for the Public / Private Partnership Excellence Award as part of the Public Sector Counter Fraud Awards 2023

We are delighted to announce that Macmillan Cancer Support and Edmonds Marshall McMahon (‘EMM’) have been shortlisted for the Public / Private Partnership Excellence Award in the Public Sector Counter Fraud Awards 2023, held in collaboration with the Public Sector Fraud Authority.

The Public Sector Counter Fraud Awards are designed to celebrate the fantastic work, commitment and innovation happening every day within the public sector counter fraud profession and to recognise the work that has taken place to create better outcomes for both government and citizens in the national fight against fraud.

Macmillan Cancer Support and EMM have pioneered a new model of working to effectively investigate and bring to justice individuals who have committed frauds against Macmillan, which sadly takes a variety of forms. As the State’s interest in investigating fraud reduces, more and more charities are turning to a collaborative partnership with the private sector to combat fraud, including bringing private criminal prosecutions to obtain justice for the benefit of their supporters.

Frauds against charities abuse the trust of persons who offer donations with the expectation that they are assisting those in need. This type of fraud has a considerable impact on the charity sector and prevents them from helping those that need their help during very difficult periods in their life. Charity fraud can result in a lasting backlash because those responsible have manipulated the emotions and generosity of donors in order to elicit a donation, leading to anger and disillusionment if it is revealed that the charity and philanthropic promises were invalid. Macmillan are committed to taking action against any wrongdoing, as it is important that the public have confidence that the money they raise and donate is going to help people.

The awards will be taking place on the 22nd February 2023 at the QEII Conference Centre, Westminster, London, following the Counter Fraud Conference.
